Yes...

I know that with what is currently available, on the market, this project is
equivelent to re-inventing the wheel..

A fellow I used to work with, I retired about 6 moths ago, told me that I
have the technical ability and where withall to build just about anything I
want to...within reason of course...

Here is my problem...I have virtually all the parts I need to build a fairly
powerful ups...I have many many batteries....

I have some toroidal cores which are unmarked...

Is there a way of finding out the characteristics of a toroid through some
kind of test circuit?..

For example I have a toroid that is made up of three toroids individually
taped together..I have tried to unwrap the tape but it appears to be glued
on...these toroids are also glued together to make up one fairly large
toroid...

Each toroid is approximately 1 and 1/2 inches in diameter...the core is
about 1/4 inch thick...

Is there a way to work out what it's characterists are?

I have toroid here that has 2 inches in diameter and is 1 inch high.
It says : 2x115V 30VA / 2x 6V on it. 50 Hz of course.

Hmm.

I have one that's about 10" across, and is good for abour 1 kVA 50/60 Hz.
