OK so you have given very little info

1) does the volume control still rotate ?
2) is there any sound at all
3) if the control still rotates, is there any scratchy sounds
4) has the unit been dropped hard ( at all)
5) has it been working and just suddenly stopped? or did you get it with this fault ?

yes, volume control still rotates and smoothly, sound is in the low state, sound is very good sounding but only on low, hasn't been drooped or mistreated, and just started acting this way. Thank you for responding.

OK
It would need some reasonable testing with an oscilloscope etc to determine where the audio path has a problem
Do you have access to a scope or a friend with one ?
You are likely to need a service manual or at minimum a schematic so that you could trace your way through the circuit

Sir vstyn . . . . .

With time onset . . .expect that cap C41 possibly may have declined in capacitance. YELLOW RECTANGLE . . .MARK-UP
Sub another like value unit across it to see if volume comes up.
Its rated at 100 ufd at 10VDC or greater.
Coming up . . . . . .
Do you have a VCR -CD or DVD player with their RCA audio output audio jack that will provide a working audio signal to inject into the unit with a RCA to RCA patch cord to then trace audio signal flow, within the unit ?

Now, needless to say that with this capacitor bad, the volume control will still have its affect at the low end of its adjustment spectrum, but at max volume the audio output level may have declined to a LOUD whisper.
