I have a L7812CV voltage regulator that I would like to use for automotive application. Need help selecting the correct capacitors for the input and output for ripple rejection. The datasheet uses an example of putting a 330nF capacitor on the input and a 100nF capacitor on the output. The regulator will mainly be powering a load of about 200mA. Would the 330nF and 100nF be fine? or should i increase the capacitor on the output? if so any suggestions?

Thanks

Where are you getting the power from?
You will need 15V on the input to get 12V on the output. The 3V difference is known as the drop out.

If a regulator is working properly, there will be negligible ripple on the output, the capacitors are there to ensure stability. Why not look up the data sheet?
