Voltage controller

I am a Computer Engineer and am stuck at a place in my project .
i want to control my fan , light etc other things using arduino as a switch .
so for that i will be using a Voltage Controller IC .
Can you name any IC available to buy from market which can do the job.

So a little more info from you first ....
1) are you wanting the arduino to control multiple items at the same time?
ie. multiple output channels ?
2) do you just want to turn fan. lights etc on and off, or is speed and brightness adjustment also required ?

1) Yes i want to control multiple channels at some time ..
2) For initials just ON and OFF is jolly good for me ..

what actually i am implementing is a smart Home using my android app ..

will provide a bluetooth to arduino and send command from my mobile application to switch ON OFF the fans n other things ..!!!

PS : Pretty kewl site , am happy with the quick response ..!!

the part of android software and sending command to arduino to control any outport is already implemented , only problem is how to switch on n off the circuit line I have at my home using arduino .

One relatively safe and simple approach is to use a solid state relay.
