Is anyone manufacturing Super Luminescent LEDs in the visible range yet?
My understanding is that these are fundamentally laser diodes without a
resonant cavity. If not, is it possible to etch/polish off the resonant
cavity mirrors of a laser diode?

    Thanks,

What one does to effectively remove one of the cavity mirrors from a
laser diode is to apply an anti-reflection coating to the exit face.
This makes it possible for instance to then use the diode in a cavity
containing an external mirror, and even a frequency selective element
such as a diffraction grating may be inserted.

    www.newfocus.com for instance makes these.

    Good day!
