Villex Passive guitar booster

So, I have been looking at this Villex Booster a lot, not knowing much but thinking it is kind of cool. I know that technically it is not a booster with it being passive, but in some of the videos i've seen it does some cool stuff. Does anyone know how one of these could be made? Lots of people have suggested it is something to do with a transformer and different caps (is it similar to a Gibson Veritone?). Thanks a lot for any direction to a noob!

I think the Varitone probably is very similar.
