Check if it's still under the 3-yr warranty?

Within the last two months, I've had two PF790 die with caps launching
themselves off the motherboard. Viewsonic issued RMA's and it only
cost the $20-$30 shipping to send it in for repairs. The monitors
came back with new boards about 2 weeks later.

This can be a fault in the uPC control circuits, or an internal power
distribution fault. I had one of my own not long ago. After about 4
years, the CRT failed. The rest was okay.

Thanks for the info! Not warranty..too old!
Maybe 5 years or so! Unit works, but pinkish,
& pix is best when unit is on it's side! Strange!

Sounds like maybe the degaussing circuit is acting up.

Here is a very simple and easy thing to check before you break out the
soldering iorn. Make sure the VGA cable is good. They get bent back and
forth so much that the wires break inside sometimes. Since the controls are
not working though, it sounds like it is probably something more than just
the cable.. But you never know!
