Video Transmission - MUX - DeMux

I will be xmitting several video sources across a vacant area about 600'
long. Is it possible to multiplex, say, 4 signals into 1 video transmitter,
then DeMux on the other end after it is received?

I have been looking around the net for such a product, but haven't found
anything.

What I want to do is cable 4 cameras to a central area, combine the signals
and transmit using only one xmitter or some other type of xmitter.

Thanks,

Yes you can take two multiplexers and do it. You take the VCR mux output, feed
it into the video xmtr and the take the rcvr output and feed it into the VCR
mux input.

Hey Alan, In this poster's other thread I also answered this question. I
first ran across a refference to it several years ago, and tried it. It
works ok, but the resulting video was much less than real time. I never
really figured out a good use for it though. This application for feeding 4
video signals over some distance on a wireless link is the first time I
really saw a good application for this. Hmmmm..... maybe I should rewrite
it and post it as a FAQ add-on request.

Thanks for the responses ~ Now I know it can be done, just need to
implement the correct way. This is a customers site and it is going to be
low budget, so I guess I have to stay away from an exotic transmission
devices.

I was thinking about the mux - xmit / demux - recvr combo, but havent found
anyone who had implemented it or heard of any results.

I guess you would eliminate a signal problem where you are moving xmitters
around to get a good signal. In stead of 4 xmitters, only one to mess with!

cheaper just to use a 4 channel transmitter, than trying to find
something to do this properly.

you have:

4 Video Transmitters, 4 channels, each camera has its own transmitter,
or they have a 4 channel one.

At the system end, either 4 recievers or 1 4 channel receiver.

Now you have 4 seperate video signals, you input them into the
multiplexer's camera inputs, 1 goes into 1, 2 into 2, etc. Just like a
regular video feed,

You must realise that wireless video is tricky. Check out thatweb
site, videotransmitters.com and they give you some idea on what you
will need and where the transmitters and receivers will have to be
placed, and where you will have to keep them away from.

EG. Transmitters/Receivers need to be mounted above any kind of
interference causing product, such as car park area etc, they
recommend at least 15 feet high. If it is too close to electric
transformers you will get interference. Depending on what frequency
you buy, you may get interference from cell phones and other wireless
products.

Only use wireless video if it is a last resort, its not as easy as
wireless alarms. If you dont mind occasional interference then it
should be fine. Ive used it in several applications, still do, but
some i have had to go back to wired.
