Cool, lock those buggers up already! LOL

USB camera .. Webcam?? What model I want one :)

Rory
We caught the purps on the first night!

We ended up installing a hi res color/bw IR illuminated USB camera
which came with software. Popped it in two nights ago, and caught
images of the guys trying to break into the storage units out back of
the store. The software had software zoom-in so we were even able to
make out part of the license plate.
Dunno what brand camera it was...my partner picked it up on the way
to the client. It wasn't a cheapo...around 350 bucks.

I still don't know what my guy bought, I'll have to check with him tomorrow. I'm not sure it was even a pro cam, 'cause he bought it at my specialty electronics supplier not at my alarm/cctv supplier.

thanks for reminding me too...he kept a copy of the software and hasn't made me one yet.

Client was elated!

Rory... We caught another one on the same camera this weekend!

This one was even better! Parking lot sweeping truck backs up to container and somehow breaks the seal using his truck. The purp gets on his cell phone and calls a buddy to come and help him unload the patio furniture. All on dvr!...The broke open the seal on interstate delivery container...big time trouble. Police got them all.

Camera was a Speco CVC-7705DNV (yah I know speco) with VariFocal lens..we paid 345 for it. The image res is great (470 I think) and its great at night has really good IR range.

Thats 2 arrests in 8 days! Client is loving us!

Cool, they are good cameras, the 7706DNV is their best model, has a
mechanical IR Cut Filter, though they are both great bullet cameras.
Yep its 470TVL.

What DVR were they using?

That Speco camera is not USB. But see if you can find out what setup they
have. I am also curious as to the DVR.

sheesh..my guy told me it was usb...ok ok...this is what he just told me on a shitty cell connection; it wasn't a USB cam, it was reg. cam..but he bought a S-Video/Composite Video TO USB cable adabter thingie and they plugged it into the USB of the clients computer.

Then his cell phone died before I could hear the rest of the story. I'm thinking the adapter cable came with some software (?) that allows the camera to go to Windows Movie Maker ????

I get this info piecemeal..it's like pulling teeth to get the whole story from my guys sometimes. sheesh..

So basically he just used some video capture software, find out which
one .. there are alot out there ;-)

Luxriot, ActiveCam, go1984, Vid/AmCap (?) etc etc ..

Thanks

question is, that records basically when you click record, for like
recording DVDs etc, what did they use to record 24/7 or did they just
click record at night and leave it?? I can see the hard drive getting
full very very quick though ..

That...I don't know...but probably.

I'm gonna mess around with it next week, my guy bought an extra belkin thing, and I have a couple of cheap cameras hanging around.

I think a capture card would be better in the long run, but this seemed to fit the bill for the client to get him hooked on cctv.

its all about getting them hooked, ive been finding that out lately. I
tell them about the other options and they can always upgrade though,
and they seem happy with the les expensive stuff. I wouldnt mind one of
those USB things myself, for my laptop .. ;-)

actually, a USB 4 port device, that uses DVR software, plug in 4 cams
and you got yourself a portable 4 channel DVR, just VELCRO the USB
device to the top of the Laptop, plug your cams in when you want .. ;-)
Just gotta make sure the laptop HDD is large enough and put that baby
on time lapse ...I-view has one im going to test out soon, just for
grins and giggles.

yep..we will have no trouble stepping him up to 4 more cams and a capture card now that he knows it works. that camera worked very well...but he may want a 570 on the new ones. he also wants cameras at his house now too.
