Using house alarm to secure vehicles

I am considering adding wireless to my Napco Gemini 3200 panel and using it
to protect my vehicles parked outside. I was thinking about placing a
wireless motion detector in each vehicle. Would this work? Is there a better
sensor choice? Any other ideas? (Don't really want a dedicated car alarm.)

How low does the temperature get in your area?? Is it subject to high
humidity. Your idea is an excellent one (and one I employ to protect the
training and rental aircraft a flying club owns). The wireless PIR is
affixed to a small bracket which can be placed on the instrument panel with
velcro strips. This arrangement has completely stopped the theft of
avionics from aircraft so protected. Every morning the "ramp jockey" takes
the keys to the aircraft and collects the PIR's to put them in a drawer in
the office (to prevent the supervisory alarm from activating should the unit
"taxi" away)...

I think you're asking for trouble. Those PIR's are not designed for
outdoor use, especially in a car where the temperature can change
rapidly. The responding authorities (if the panel is monitored) might
take issue with that as well. And, as Frank pointed out, if you drive
off with one the panel will go into trouble because the device didn't
check in.
