I wonder if this is the place to receive answer on my problem, correct
    me if not.
I have a USB to Serial converter of "Z-Tek". I'm trying to operate a
modem that has a connection of RS232 COM port, and I'm using USB to
Serial converter, to send data from my Laptop(Win 2000) throgh the USB
and to the serial. I see the port in Device manager & everything seem
correct, but I don't have any connection between the USB and the
Serial port, even in HyperTerminal I see nothing.
Any suggestion how to fix it?
  2. You might have a null cable situation where TX and RX are swapped. I
would look into that first as it is usually the problem. The USB side
    does enumerate?

Windows plug and play may be killing you.

When windows sees a new serial port, it tries to figure out what's connected
I had a very similar problem, because windows thinks that GPS data is a
ballpoint mouse, and immediately installs the driver for the mouse, which
eats the data coming in. In some cases, it makes no indication that this is
happening, so you just have to get lucky and notice the entry in the
hardware, for a device you don't have..

My solution was to use Edgeport serial ports, because their driver can
exclude plug and play from those ports.

I have three eight port boxes, and a number of four port boxes, as well as
their "usb anywhere" product. They work just fine.
