TV Volume Too Loud

I just got a Viewsonic LCD tv and even at it's lowest volume setting,
it's still too loud. Any suggestions on an easy way to lower the
volume? I have it connected via the coax cables from the DirecTV box.
Is there anything that can be connected in-line on the audio cable
between the tuner to tv to lower the signal? Or is that not a good
idea? Thanks for any suggestions.

Put duct tape over the speakers.

No.

You'll just get a snowy picture. I'd add a resistor in series with the
speaker.

If it's connected via the 3 RCA plug cables (composite video and stereo
audio) then yes, you can buy/make an attenuator for the audio cables. It's
just a few resistors.

Actually, I mis-wrote. I am using the RCA cables, so I'll give the
attenuator a try. Thanks everyone for their responses.

RGT-

Take another look at the jacks where you plug the cables into the TV. It is
possible there is another audio jack that has less sensitivity, perhaps called
"line in".

Yes, an in-line attenuator may be appropriate. I think Radio Shack may sell
one.
