Hi all,

Suddenly my monitor has started giving me problem. First it lost the
"Keyston" setting. I tried to readjust, but no sooner it reaches the
maxinum it jumps back to minimum, i.e. narrow at the top. I just left
it a tade before max. It is not perfect but tolarable.

Now I notice that some time it jurks.

My question is, is it safe like that, or one by one other things start
to go wrong. It is only three and half years old. I need advice from
your folks. Thanks.

These monitors can sometimes be difficult to service, even for
experienced technical people. Most of the faults are from capacitors
going defective in the scans and power supply sections.

You can take your monitor to the Sony authorised service center for an
estimate, or simply invest in a new monitor.

I found that after about 3 to 5 years, most of these monitors go
defective. I personaly change them, rather than spend my time and
money to service them.

You would enjoy the newer generation of monitors these days. They are
very good. Also, consider an LCD screen. If you do a lot of text work,
you will find it amazing to work with.

This is Sony N3 chassis - common failure is IC007, CXA2043Q, which
results in many deflection-related problems

Thanks for the reply. I checked with a Sony Authorised dealer for a
quote and it is £110, being a pensioner can not afford, nor can I buy
a new one.

I do not have experience of TV repair, just general electronics. TV
circuits can be large and finding the offending component without
knowing where to look, without circuit diagrams, manuals etc may take
me a while.

Any hints as to where to and what to look for would be a great help.
Is it possible to get a schametic for that portion of Circuit would be
a great help also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MCM electronics has it for $36.39, but it's on 70 days back order.
Interestingly, the same IC under the Sony part number costs $50 from
MCM. I think they will ship to England. I'm 99% sure it's the
problem. It's a very high failure part and actually the only failure
I've seen with that monitor.

Be sure you can handle surface mount soldering before you order the
IC. It's nothing that requires special equipment other than a temp
controlled iron and fine tip if you're good at soldering.

Hi all

Thanks for the help. I reckon it would be 90 days before I receive the
chip (CXA2043Q) from MCM. In the mean time I will find out some local
supplier in UK.

The last question I would like to ask you gentlmen is that is it safe
to keep on using Monitor or should I shut it down, till i replace the
offending chip.

Thanks once again for your help.

Cheers.

I've never seen this IC cause any other damage. If it's still usable
it should be ok.
