I found a device containing a few transistors labeled "2SD873".
I found the data sheet for this device here http://www.datasheetarchive.com/2SD873-datasheet.html

But I am having trouble understanding exactly what it is that the part does, I was hoping that they were power MOSFETs but I think they do something different.

    Thanks for any help.

It's an NPN Silicon power transistor

Not to sound stupid, but is that the same thing as a bipolar-junction transistor?
