Greetings group.
Can someone please let me know where transformer oil can be bought in
Victoria?

I'm surprised you haven't had a response yet.

Can't help directly but I am pretty sure any of the wholesale
lubricant suppliers would do transformer oil - however you
may have to buy a 25lt (or whatever) drum - what are you
doing? Usually people refilling transformers know where
to buy the oil?

I used to get it in 20 litre drums from a Mobil agent in Greens road
Dandenong. I can't remember the name though as it's been a few years.
Tried the Yellow pages?

Shell used to sell it many years ago, it was called "Dialla B" IIRC.

Is is it the same as old style capacitor oil, with toxic PCB?

Al

I don't take sides. It's more fun to insult everyone.

No, AFAIK oils containing pcb's have been banned from sale.

In fact one oil in transformer use, is also used for food handling
machinery. I don't think that was Diala B though.

Thanks for the replies.
A customer wants some. He says he wants it for a welder.

Not necessarily. I seem to remember an "Aston" welder of about 50 years ago
which was oil filled.

Try wilson transformers. They'd be able to put you in the right direction.
They're busy supplying ENERGEX with a ridiculous number of transformers at
the moment.

Last time I went out on site, the Wilson installers were filling the
transformers with oil from 44gal drums during commissioning.

If you don't have any luck, let me know, I'll go and read the supplier's
label on the barrels.
