Basically, our power went on and off a few weeks ago, and I think
there might have been a surge (i have several surge protectors in my
house and none of them tripped). i noticed that everytime the power
went on, the TV would go on, despite being off. this has happened in
the past on occassion. i think this time around it really screwed
something up, because the TV will turn on with sound, but the picture
doesn't come up....the video portion is completely off. i've even
tried unplugging it for about a day or so with no avail (the power
"surge" messed up my garage lifter, but after i unplugged it for a few
hours and plugged it in it was fine).

Something in the TV was obviously damaged, the only thing you can do is have
a trained technician look at it, without propper tools and some experience
there's nothing anyone here can tell you that will help you get your set
working.
