Now - with top posting

Hi John - how are today

Good thanks David

How are you?

Good thanks John

Huh? That's in chronological order, in other words bottom-posted. It
is in fact exactly how the last post in a properly quoted
bottom-posted conversation on usenet would look. I guess the way you
don't like is actually more natural for you, or you wouldn't have done
it even when trying not to.

THIS is top-posting:

Good thanks John

How are you?

Nah, PA is a down-under truckstop whore. DimBulb (a.k.a. Fuchednthehead)

Yeah, it sure sounds like dim star, the retard references are strikingly
similar.

Phil provides a great deal of amusement, because despite his high
opinion of his skills, he gets lost very easily in truly technical
discussions. Perhaps he shouldnt have flunked out of uni?

Personally, I dont give a rats arse whether or not somebody top, bottom
or middle posts. I'm a big boy, I can cope.

Talentless drongos whingeing does tend to make me want to do whatever
they are complaining about though.

The point isn't that most posts arrive, it's that they should
generally arrive ordered temporally, with the earliest post being
the first on the list. A FIFO buffer, IOW. That post _would_ be
new information to someone who just started listening to the thread,
much like it would be new information to someone who just started
_reading_ the thread.

So, if you reply to this post will you in-line and bottom post in
order to preserve the continuity of the thread (as you have been ;)
or will you top post out of spite?

It isn't new information [quoted text], if you go to read the first post
in the thread!

---
It is if it's the first time you've read it, and if it isn't then
you should know to go to the end of the post for the new
information, just like you do when you read a book.
---
If you think that counts as "traversing the whole thread", then so be it.
Hell, you have to read the whole thread to read the whole thread anyway, so
what's your point!?

---
My point is that top posting for the sake of top posting is rude and
inconsidereate of your readers.

I see you top posted out of spite, but no matter, I bottom posted
for you so your post would be in the proper order.

In parting, I refer you to Google's posting guidelines at:

http://groups.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12348&topic=250

And, in particular:

"Summarize what you're following up.

When you click "Reply" under "show options" to follow up an existing
article, Google Groups includes the full article in quotes, with the
cursor at the top of the article. Tempting though it is to just
start
typing your message, please STOP and do two things first.
Look at the quoted text and remove parts that are irrelevant.
Then, go to the BOTTOM of the article and start typing there.
Doing this makes it much easier for your readers to get through your
post. They'll have a reminder of the relevant text before your
comment, but won't have to re-read the entire article.
And if your reply appears on a site before the original article
does,
they'll get the gist of what you're talking about."

Got it?

I think you missed the point that my reasonings there were hypothetical,
extrapolating from points mentioned, and needn't apply. Reductio ad
absurdum or so.

Polite circuit designer, too, from the look of it...

As if the electrons give a damn? What do they care as long as they
have someplace to go. A short circuit is a good as the most
sophisticated design ever built as far as they are concerned. At least
electrons behave like they are supposed to. ;-)

So, are you telling everyone here that you can't figure out how to
click on the scroll bar with your mouse and drag it to where the new
text starts? That just takes ONE CLICK!.

No. reductio absurdum doesn't play well in a group with pelople who tend
to think logically.

Works for simple conversations with simple people, I guess. For anything
more complex, infix posting works better than either postfix or prefix.

I guess that you need more than two working neurons to bottom post!
;-)

The former is actually how voice transmission was done by hams 50 years ago,
when it was relatively hard to switch from transmitting to receiving!

Lying bullshit. It only took a fraction of a second, and some hams
were using break in keying when sending code that let them hear between
key downs. I have the 1956 ARRL "Radio Amateur's Handbook" in my hand,
where pages 238 & 239 tells how to do break in keying, and noting that
you need two antennas because none of the mechanical antenna transfer
relays were fast enough for this mode of operation.

Any more blatant lies you want to tell us?

Hehe. What is it about whining (whinging is an Aussie-ism?) that makes you
want to do things, anyway? ;-)

Tim

I blame rage against the machine.

"**** you, I wont do what you tell me"

Actually, its because (in this case) the whingeing is about something
utterly pointless.

Its like homophobes: If you dont like gay men, dont have sex with them.
Likewise, if you dont like top posting, dont do it. maybe even dont
respond to a top-poster, if you feel that strongly about it.

but no, thought nazis insist that everything has to be done their way.
All arguments (pro and anti) are fairly specious, as anyone with a
modicum of intellect can cope with either approach.

Cheers
