What is missing from the free version compared to the ones they want
$539 or $269 for? (and for some reason they think Canadians should pay
a whopping EUR 539 rather than a diminutive USD 539).

Its:

"TINA-TI is limited to circuits with two ICs and up to 20 additional
nodes. "

Which is pretty crap.

The demo of SS allows 25 ics/components, 30 nodes on the top level, plus
25 per schematic block on one level of hierarchy. This means that if the
top level blocks are all schematics you can have 25*30=750 components in
the demo.

If you want a real, free, spice3g simulator including schematic front
end, graphical post processor, etc., then check out LTSpice from Linear
Technology. Full Spice3g compatibility, large circuits OK, and some
really nice extra features.
