this paper shredder?

Hello, I got this paper shredder..........it`s a fellow`s. It was bought in
the US and intended to be used in the US. Out of the box it had a plug
intended for use overseas.....the plug won`t fit in a US plug. So I thought I
would just change out the original plug and put in a regular 3 prong US plug.
With this new plug I put on it, it won`t even shred more than one piece of
paper......it is suposed to shred about 7 sheets at one time. I now understand
that the motor is a 220v motor.
To be used overseas and by hooking it to 110v US....it has no power. It is way
too late to take it back to the place of purchase and I called Fellow`s company
and they say that it is not there problem. They said just buy another one.
I opened the thing up to see if there were seperate wiring hookups for the 220
and 110 but there is not. Are my only options to re-hook up the plug to fit my
220v..........which is my dryer........or throw the thing away. BTW it cost
about $180.00 a couple of years ago. OH .....I could just shred one peice
of paper at a time on the 110v.

It's probably pretty much as the Fellowes fellow told you.. If there is no
voltage switch or wiring changes that you can find, then it's pretty much a
lost cause unless you can get 220VAC to it without a major expense. The
unit likely has all the paper sensing and motor switching circuity built for
220V operation, and without a lot of parts changing, and possibly a little
redesign, that's the way it is. If the motor is 220V only, then unless you
can find a CHEEP 115V motor that will fit inside the shredder, then you're
up the creek.

Call around to the major electrical suppliers in your area. You can get
a 12 to 15 amp step up transformer 120 V to 220 V for about $50 to about
$80 or so. Also, your stove uses 220 or 208 Volts, and some home
heating equipment runs on 220 Volts. If it is worth it for you, you can
have an electrician come in and do a proper AC outlet installation for
it. He can put in another breaker in your breaker box, and run out a
connection to the location that you would want it.

Your dryer is a 30A circuit, you need a 15A circuit for it.
