2nd to ADT (8mil), and ahead of Brinks (800k), is Protection One (1.3
mil). http://www.protectionone.com/

And this is in terms of how many customers they have.

How come there aren't any messages here about this company?

Who knows, Monitronics has managed to get some additional funding so
Protection One may also find some if the deal is right. The fact that the
top five security companies are all for sale doesn't suggest much confidence
in the industry.
Of course, before the top Tyco exec took off with the $600 million we all
thought Tyco would buy the other four.

Every company is up for sale if the price is right but ......

Tyco: Nobody knows if they will sell ADT or not, its all speculation, they
may sell parts of it or it's other security businesses

Protection One: Ruined by inept management and too rapid growth that IS up
for sale and will be sold either this month or next.

Brinks: Not up for sale at the moment, doubt if it will be anytime soon

Monitronics: Any talk of sale is speculation

Honeywell: They ARE for sale because Honeywell wants to concentrate on
manufacturing not because it's unprofitable (that I know of)

Some say they may split their government/industrial away from their
residential/small commercial and sell the residential/small commercial at a
bargain price. If they do, who gets the name?

Better yet who's got the deep pockets to buy the residential/small
commerical division?
Westar has taken a big hit and finally wrote down a large portion of their
investment into P-1. They may be willing to cut their lost and dump P-1 from
their holdings. The rumor is that the management of P-1 is erecting roadblocks
at every turn. Some say they want a higher price based on the P-1 name while
potential buyers couldn't care less about the name and may even consider the
name a liability. Others say that current management wants some sort of
agreement where they get to stay on. Imagine, buying a failing company and
keeping the people who drove it into the dirt.

Yea I can imagine that since the brains at Westar let the original P1
control the new merged company
I don't think Brink's will entertain a sale. They just renamed the entire
company to focus and highlight Brink's armored car and the home security
business. Those two divisions are what's holding up the entire Brink's
company. Plus who would buy a company who's equipment isn't compatible with
anyone else?

Hell I doubt that stops a sale, look at Well's Fargo and anyone else with
proprietary panels. Remember that often the brains at the top of the
purchasing company aren't always tech savy
Since Monitronics is a privately held company, there's little info openly
available. I'm wondering how much the problems with P-1's and ADT's dealer
program is starting to concern them since that's virtually 100% of their
business model?

Thats always a concern
Now, there's still the rumor that a large national security guard company is
shopping for a national or large regional alarmco. They want to establish a
mega security company with guards, investigative, alarms, response and risk
management. One stop shopping. If this happens, we will have the BORG!

Rob-

Or another P1
