I got a call this morning from someone in the Florida panhandle.
He said that ADT recommended me. Apparently, he had asked
them to service his old, DIY-installed system after it was damaged
by lightning. The system is not monitored. They didn't want to
work on a system without a monitoring contract. He asked where
he could buy a replacement control panel and the salesman gave
him my phone number.

I don't know any ADT employees from northern Florida but
apparently they're aware of my business. Neat. :^)

We thank ADT on a weekly basis.
We are building a shrine to ADT out of recycled ADT lawnsigns.

ADT might not be good for their own
customers, but it is great for business.

I think it depends on which "ADT" we're
talking about. ADT corporate has a good
reputation. ADT's "authorized dealers"
are another story entirely. Just last week
I found another one that is operating
illegally in Florida. Needless to say, the
state board does nothing about it even
though they know all about their illegal
practices.

I guess it all depends on "who you know."

This state license board item reminds me of this:

Bay Alarm Company, of Pacheco, CA (yes, THAT company, which claims to
have ~85,000 customers) operated an unlicensed burglar and fire alarm
business for over 5 years, from 10-20-2000 until at least 12-29-2005.

No California licenses at all, until they finally applied for, and were
issued, burglar alarm license #ACO-28 on that date, and, several months
later finally got fire alarm license #C10-880138.

But for all those many intervening years, no licenses.

Meanwhile, with full knowledge of the facts, including copies of
documentary proof, the California Alarm Association (CAA), one of the
largest good-old-boys-clubs around, upon whose Board of Directors one on
Bay Alarm Company's representatives, Matt Westphal, sits, did nothing.

Instead, CAA Board members engaged in a flurry of coverup and denial
activity.

Mr. BAss:

With your reputation on the ASA,
I can only believe that you're telling lies
again. Why would ADT corporate take a
chance on being involved in an aiding &
abetting case?

I believe you're stretching the truth again.

Now, if you can substantiate your findings
of an unlicensed ADT Authorized Dealer,
you can file a complaint......But knowing
your "record" on the ASA...........

I'll leave it at that......

This is all too familiar, Nick. It seems ridiculous
that several of the installers who hang out in
ASA rag on me for being unlicensed (I sell online;
no license required) yet they ignore

I recently got a call from someone in the area.
They wanted to know if Bay was a good choice for
monitoring their alarm. I told them what you had
said about Bay and suggested they contact you for
monitoring. They were nice folks -- installed their
own Napco P3200 system. Hope you got the
monitoring contract.
