Per my earlier post, I have a distorted LH channel (RH is fine.) The
LH ch. is clipping on one 1/2 cycle almost completely, other 1/2 cycle
OK, seen on 'scope at the PA drive, too.

Can anyone point me to the schematic of the whole SA5160 unit or even
just the power amplifier S/C block, an STK0177? This is looking like
    a lost cause so far...

    Thanks for all replies,

  2. The associated output IC is most likely defective. Some of its support
components including the drivers for it are most likely also

As for the service manual, it should still be available from
Matsuchita. The cost is approximately $40 to $60 US.

Service people will not give out copies of service manuals, because
they had to pay full price for them, and that the manuals are
copyright material. If a service center is sited for illegal
distribution of manuals, they can loose their any service agreements
that they have, or even be prosecuted for copyright infringements.

Thanks, Jerry. Sounds like the Kiss of Death to me.... The whole
unit when working is only worth about US$25 (it's not a "good"
Technics) so there's no point in buying manuals and a replacement
power amp IC, etc. and putting in the time. Also, this unit is
constructed to be almost unserviceable - can't even get to the back of
the PCB without taking it out. Pity because the AM/FM tuner part is
working fine (but I have a surplus of tuners!) - it's to the cannibals
    for this one!

All Technics, even newer ones are built that way. You have to completely
take the whole receiver/amp apart to get to the bottom of pcb :(

Not the SA-200. The bottom comes off (got one!)
