Does the SDSA 1175 Surge Arrester installation require turning off all
of the power? Or, can the SDSA be installed while the power is on?
An electrician installed one on our control panel in the garage, but
power was never cut off. Just wondering if he did it right......

Makes no difference. And the only thing concerning here is the
electrician that did it. I assume that he was still around to collect
the money from you when the job was done ? :)

Since it is just a parallel connection across active and neutral it could be
done without disconnecting power - provided all of the normal precautions were
employed. ie. stand on rubber mat, wear rubber soled shoes, use appropriately
insulated tools, handle one wire at a time and don't touch earthed objects.

I have done similar things on my own house wiring and here we use 240Vac 50Hz
with phase, neutral and earth connections. I must admit that on the odd occasion
I have been a bit noncahalant about things and received a nasty whack though -
    but I am still here.
