Try this:

Our place is the 3-story building in the center of this image. The
roofline is actually flat; the step seems to be a scan/splice
artifact. Half hidden by the tanker truck is What's Up Dog, the local
hot-dog stand. Pan around and try to spot the three lighthouses; maybe
we'll add a fourth. Just down 12th street is The Chocolate Factory,
worth a visit if you're in town.

Great view--the Slim Pickens angle.

Remember, mechanical engineers build weapons; civil engineers build targets.

Looks like a good gritty neighbourhood to keep your mind on your job.

This is my lab--slightly different surroundings--that's why nobody at
all has an office window. ;)

Lots of fun stuff in both places though--I finally got in a 40 Gb/s,
zero chirp, lithium niobate modulator today. Watson Lab is 5 miles from
home, and Rocky's Millwood Deli is only a mile away. Rocky's is open
24/7, fast, friendly, and *real genuine guy food*. There's a
hot-cappicolo-and-provolone-on-a-roll-lettuce-tomato-mayo-salt-pepper
calling to me right now, I recognize the voice. (Fortunately there's
guy food available at home too.)

Cheers,

Is the silver/gray vehicle your new Rabbit or is that the "Employee of
the Month" spot?

Aha! So you probably know (of) Harley Heinrich?

I've been around everywhere... a sign of old age ;-)

I was going to take a shot of the Civil War plaque at the Veterans
Park for you, to see if any of your old friends were listed but I got
sick from the heat before I could get to the other side of the park and
had to head home. Maybe next time! ;-)

We park inside, mostly, and the Rabbit is blue. It's not obvious, but
the Enterprise lot (with the hot-dog stand at its tip) is across Otis
Street from us. There's really no free street parking, or any other
kind of free parking, anywhere near here. We're just a few blocks from
City Hall.

It's sort of weird to have an electronics design and manufacturing
place downtown in a big city.

It is a little rough. But there's some seriously good latte and
pastries a couple of blocks away, and some NYT-well-reviewed
restaurants within an easy walk... Zuni Cafe, Hayes Street Grill,
Absynthe.

Looks serene. It reminds me of the old HP site in Cupertino, that was
once surrounded by peach groves. Now it's surrounded by car
dealerships and fast-food joints.

What are you going to drive it with? We were working on a 20 GHz
distributed amp modulator driver a couple of months back, but it's
been sidetracked by a laser modulator that a guy may want a bunch of.

Close to us there's a Chinese place that makes a world-class hot
corned-beef on egg bread sandwich, up there with Zabar's. Who woulda
thunk it?

Cool. Here's a break-in allegedly in progress maybe 6 blocks away:
