Has anyone ever experimented to see if th Sunny Boy grid tie inverter can be
spoofed with out a grid voltage on it? (using something simple like a 100w
12v inverter)

Wondering,

The requirements of the UL listing that they must comply with prohibit
such operation. Frequency and voltage stability must be held within
very tight tolerances in order for the grid-tie inverter to fire up,
and if it did, it'd cause an overvoltage (*) event and shut itself
down.

(*) Unless the SB output was never more than the total load and never
less than (total load minus other inverter's capacity).
