I am new to MOSFETs and H-bridges.

I am working on trying to build a circuit based on this project -
"Dual DC motor speed control with reverse project"
http://lashwhip.com/spdcntrl.html

The project uses
Analog Devices ADP3417 MOSFET hi-lo drivers.
The ADP3417's drive the IRF3704 MOSFET devices which are configured in an H-bridge configuration.

It looks like adp3417s have been replaced by adp3419s.
www.analog.com/static/imported-files/data_sheets/ADP3419.pdf

The only adp3419's I have found are tiny surface mount that I can't possibly solder.

Is there anything special about the adp3419s.
What specs do I need to look for if I am trying to substitute?

Thanks, Kevin.

Hi there Kevin :)
The chip doesn't look all that easy to reverse engineer using logic gates and delay circuits, which would be required to do things like 'overlap control'.
However I see there are youtube videos on how to solder SMD's so I wonder whether you might put a special pcb together. The pcb would take a surface mount device and give you the chance to put decent legs on it. You'd solder your device to the little pcb and put it in the circuit just like a full-size chip.
Does that sound OK?

Thanks for the reply. I may have found a solution.

I found a substitute chip (MicroChip MCP14628)
It is an 8 pin SOIC. Still surface mount but about 50% bigger than the mini surface mount ADP chip. I was able to successfuly solder it to a SOIC to DIP adapter.

Kevin.
