Sorry but why exectly are the leads on pushbuttons all bent and weird? Is it for a reason or is it just so its a pain to get them into breadboards?

If you are talking of the small kink in the end of the leads, I think that is to retain them in the board until after soldering.
In any case I just use needle nose and crimp them straight.!
They are usually a tad wide to get into a Breadboard anyway?

Yes, they do appear to be a different pitch? If that's the correct word!
I used to solder leads to switches and pots with tinned ends for breadboard use.
Now I have a separate pcb with several types of switches, pots and header pins. So whether DPDT, Tactiles, illuminated rockers etc.it's just male jumpers board to board. Clean and works a treat!
