Starting Microsoft Outlook - I get an error box

When I start Microsoft Office Oulook I get an error box which reads

The add-in "c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\vsolplg.dll" could not be
installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and
Repair on the Help menu.

I used Detect and Repair, and it stated that it was repaired
succesfully but the error box is showing again when I start Outlook. I
tried to find vsolplg.dll file but it doesn't exists (I had have
mcaffe which I uninstalled, so I gues that something is still left). I
have XP os.

Can you please help me to fix / get rid of this message.

Does the error message indicate if it is a registry or startup
problem? I routinely have to clean every reference to McAfee out of the
registry by hand on the computers I refurbish. The uninstall routines
written by McAfee are about as reliable as their software.

Try one of the microsoft.public.* newsgroups - one for Outlook or Office.

Hi Max,

As Michael has said you can solve this by searching the registry for McAfee
references and clearing them out, editing the registry is risky so manually
set a restore point prior to doing this to be on the safe side.

You could also try disabling the add-in in Outlook; Tools | Options | Other
tab | Advanced options | Add-in manager and de-select any McAfee add-ins you
see there.

out that the mouse mouse connector was bad). So, after this PC recovery
I started having this add-in message in Outlook.

I solved the problem disabling the add-in in Outlook, so it is Ok now.

There are free utilities to back up and to restore the registry, but
you should practice on an old machine the first couple times. I learned
to edit the registry by just diving in on computers that had nothing
worth keeping, so if I messed up, it didn't matter. I've kept this
computer running through five motherboards and countless other hardware
failures with the original install of Windows ME by cleaning the trash
out of the registry from time to time.

As Michael has said you can solve this by searching the registry for McAfee

I've had very good luck simply copying down error messages like this
when they pop up and entering them as search terms in Google. Usually
someone has had the same trouble. Often there are multiple sites with
some kind of explanation, and often a fix. If googling the complete
error message (with quotes around the search) doesn't produce useful
results, then google the actual file name.

For instance, googling "vsolplg.dll" brought up 55 hits. I'll bet at
least one of them--probably more--will give useful information.
