Starting 500W halogen lamps from battery / inverter system.

I've been asked to provide power to a security system which includes a
couple of 500W lamps controlled by PIR sensors.

The good news is that as they are switched independently, the chances of
them coming on at the same time is pretty small, but given that their
resistance when cold is only a few ohms, I guess the battery / inverter
system will find their switch on surge a challenging load.

Does anybody have any experience of the size of inverter that will
reliably start a lamp like this while also running say a kW of other
equipment ?
