Does anyone know where I might purchase a small quantity of 12V cigarette
lighter plugs that contain enough extra room in the housing to build in a
regulator circuit? I have a device with somewhat bizarre input voltage
requirements and hence can't use one of the (many!) off-the-shelf 12V
adapters. I'd prefer to find just a bare plug with space inside, but I'd be
up for hacking apart something that already had circuitry inside (and
throwing it out) if it were cheap enough (<$5?).

    Thanks,

Answered my own question... All Electronics has old Motorola cell phone 7.5V
adapters that could be hacked for all of $2.

I've never heard of these people before. Do they have a track record
    with you? How is it?

  4. They've been around forever. A surplus house.

I've been buying stuph from them for 30 years. I have never, I am
ashamed to say, been in their store, but know it's ENORMOUS. (It
was Kettering's factory, I think.) They set up large tents at the
Dayton Hamvention, and I also buy mail order.

My only unhappiness with them was when they were out of stock of
    what I wanted....because I'd procrastinated.
