sound chips

Does anyone know how I can produce reasonable music tones (e.g. B
flat, F sharp, etc.)?
- I do not want a music box /sequencer thing - just the ability to
hold an F sharp for 2 seconds (for example)
- ideally, this would be 12 pitches per octave across 2 octaves
- doesn't need to be midi compatible
- doesn't need fancy sounds or production quality tones - a default
piano sounds would do - like in cheap organs
- I'd rather not refurbish an old organ

If someone knows of a chip or FPGA design that would work for me. I
would drive the sound from a pic or stamp or fpga...
