I have a Sony S2 (ZS-X1) boombox that has never worked right (the CD
player). It's less than a year old, so it still has parts warranty, but
basically Sony wants me to mail it to them at my expense and then pay $70,
and then they'll send me a reconditioned unit. It cost $100 new! Anyway,
it's supposed to play CD-RWs, but never has been able to. As far as
regular audio CDs or CD-Rs, while playing it cuts out, or
says "no disc", or reverts to "00" on the display, regardless of the type
or quality of the CD you try to play. I believe it has gotten worse since
I got it last Christmas. I have used a CD cleaner and have tried manual
cleaning of the lens, and those had no effect. I am an electronics
technician, but would like to know where to start!
