You should always mention the model number. Most are different from
each other.
Firstly, does your set physically have the RGB option?
Is there something feeding an RGB signal in to this input? If not, the
menu may not let you select it.
There are no factory default settings for these parameters. Only the
prompts are standard to the same models of sets. This is why we purchase
the service manual whenever we go in to a set to adjust or service
something deep!
There are a few basic setups that are common and with experience, we can
do them by eye and memory. Also these setups are done with the proper
calibration instruments connected to the set. Only some very basic
setups are done using a TV station or broadcast signal of some type.
Normally we use the proper test generator, DVM, and scope connected up
to the recommended test points, and or inputs and outputs. Then we
follow the procedures according to the service manual to get things right.
I have had many clients mess in the service menus. Most of the time the
sets end up in the service departments to put them back. The average
labor cost is about $100 to $200 because of the time involved. If there
is any damage done from over extending the adjustment range, then the
cost of the damaged parts is added to the labor time. I have seen a few
that were so badly misaligned, we had to change the necessary IC's
because we could not even get a picture to know where we were going! I
have seen damages go in to the many hundreds of dollars. Remember that
these are not user controls with limited range!
With most of the Sony models, if you did NOT save the changes, you can
unplug the set from the AC mains for about 20 seconds. The original
settings will come back. If you saved the changes, then you will have
to have the set properly setup by a Sony authorized shop, or an
independent that knows what he is doing and has the proper setup to do it.
