Here are some pictures of what the image looks like:

The vertical lines are not only jagged, but there is some jittering to them as
well. The geometry controls in the setup menu have no effect in straightening
the lines. When you first turn the monitor on, you can see a few retrace lines
but that seems to settle down as the set warms up.

I resoldered the connections on the boards, tested the esr of all the
electrolytic caps, and found no problems there. Could a bad flyback be causing
these symptoms?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi David,

I'd be willing to bet on failing/failed IC007 CXA2043Q; common
failure. Usually results in all sorts of deflection-related problems.

the fact that you are seeing retrace lines at first then they seem to
fade should point ya to the right direction, don't blame the flyback. I
bet freeze mist around the vert IC would show ya something, most likely
a bad chip.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the pointer. I'll swap out IC007 and see what happens.

An update on this monitor:

I decided for the time being to live with the problem. Today however, the
picture became extremely blurry. It lasted for about 3 minutes and then cleared
up again. So now does it sound like the flyback is failing?

Thanks for your reply.

Sounds like the voltages on the tube are intermittent. Worst case, an
internal tube element has come loose or there is an intermittent short
inside. Flyback would not be my first thought.
