hello,

I have a Sony gdm-f400 monitor that has a bad flyback switch, when this was
replaced, other problems arose. the repair shop said then they could not fix
this monitor. is it hopeless or were they just not qualified enough to fix,
and is there a shop in the san antonio, TX, Dallas or Houston Texas area
that could fix such a monitor, or a person? if I have posted to the wrong
group, could you please point me to the correct posting. thank you

if you had a bad flyback its very possible that other items could have
gotten damaged.
the flyback generates alot of high voltage and is also used to dirive
a low voltage source in many cases..
some times a flyback can short thus causing very high voltage to
appear on the low voltage side thus cause more damage than can be
fixed. in many items like you have there you have LS (large Scale)
micro chips that get wacked. other times excessive voltage for long
period of operation cause X-rays to beat down on the semiconductors
and thus is not a good thing.
P.S.
Flybacks also cuase fires and burn boards .. i think you should
get your self a new monitor.

thanks for the reply, hate to get a new monitor, really liked the quality of
this one. not to mention I paid 895 about 4 years ago. well I guess that is
way the monitor goes.
