Some sort of relay.

Hello.

This is my first post to this group so i apologise in advance if this
post does not make sense or is clear enough, but I will try my best to
explain.

I have a very simple circuit with a switch on it and the switch no
longer works so I replaced it with another switch. It turns out the new
switch is like a "bell" switch (ie. you have to keep it pushed for the
circuit to be closed) which is not like the old one. What I am looking
for is the name of a component that I need that would fix this circuit.

Ideally this is what I am looking for; when the "bell" switch is
pressed once, the circuit will close. Then when the "bell" switch is
pressed again the circuit will then open.

I really hope this makes sense. I am just looking for the name of this
component so I can go and purchase it.

Many Thanks

It's called an "alternate action" switch.
Or a "push on - push off"

Or if your set on using the switch you have .. you can connect it
to a latching relay .. trigger it once and it is one state, trigger it
again and it jumps to the other.

Cheapest and easiest to replace it with a regular
"on - off" switch - either rotary, toggle, or
push on - push off. You don't _need_ a relay.
If you want to learn about relays or if there is
something else in your requirement that you haven't
mentioned, that's a horse of a different color.
