How frequently do mass produced devices use customized LCD displays? I mean non standardized parts.

Witch one of these monochromatic LCD is cheaper? 7 segment or low resolution dot matrix?

Is it common noways to connect the low power LCD with a "rubber strip"?

Form my experience, the standardized unit usually has a wide useless frame while the ones I disassembled from product usually utilize most of the display areas. What delicates the utilization of the glass?

If anyone knows, please tell me the part number of the LCD used on cheap digital watches.

Feel free to add anything you like.
