How are solenoids rated? Can I use DC on and AC solenoid and
visa versa. Is it that if I feed 12 volts AC 60 Hz into a 12 VDC
rated solenoid, it will not have as much pull?

Prob not. DC sol am current limit by coily resist thing. AC sol am current
limit by inductorance thing. Lotz ov sums plus complikate, hav something do
wiv B and Hot.

I did an experiment. My observation is that AC does require more voltage. They also
buzz. The biggest difference seemed to be a whole bunch more current needed when the plunger
is in the normal position. Once it moves to the throw position the curren drops.
Using DC the current does not change. This was with one solenoid tested.

I did an experiment. ...

Could be for AC one when armature/plungerer move it close magnetickle
circuit as well as electritickle one. In closing magnetickle circuit
inductorance rises so draw less current.
