    any reason not to replace the rechargable batteries they come with
    with something with more capacity, when the batteries die?

    The only problem you may have is the ability of the system to charge the
    higher capacity cells.
    Keep the chemistry the same, ie if it has NiCads don't put in NiMH.

    Solar power produces VERY little electricity.
