I thought they were 5 to 10 times more efficient, but the recent
numbers that I see suggest 1.5 times more efficient.
("standard" 18/watt, CFL = 50, LED maybe 78. Some
vapor/metal stuff is as high as 90. Standard incandescent
spectrum continuous, which the sun is. Most other stuff
is discrete, which may cause problems for some people.)
750 hours "standard", 6000 for CFL, 40000-10000 for LED.
CFL is good enough unless you need a ladder to replace things.

About US$1 for "standard" 100, $6 for equivalent CFL, $200 for
LED.

I just purchased a 4 piece LED lighting set from Ikea for $40US.

Sold as under counter lighting with a switchmode power supply.

Each LED disk is 12-volts. Respectible amount of light, 4 of them
equal a PL-7 CFL.

LEDs do not waste light by shining it out on all sides, so the fixture
efficiency is high. A CFL in a fixture has an optical efficiency of
60% or lower.

Fine if you don't want diffuse light. Personally I do.

A CFL in a fixture has an optical efficiency of 60% or lower.

Use less complicated lamp shades. I use those Chinese globe things a lot.
