Does anybody use quickbooks software for their security business. If so,
could you please send me some information on the way you set up the
accounts? IE: naming account codes for contacts, panels, keypads,
monitorin, service calls. I dont think I have mine set up right.

Thank you

When I do an estimate, I want to be able to use for example: 20rs12 for GRI
contact with 12 inch leads pc5010 for a DSC alarm panel, things like that.
hope this helps. By the way, I am at my job, so this might come up from
Alice Phipps.

Thanks
Jimmy Dale

You can use any part number that makes sense to you. The way I create my
items includes the first 3 of the manufacture then the first 3 of the type
and then the part number. An example would be GRI-CON-N20RS this way I can
tell it is a GRI contact and the part number is at the end.

Some people like to make a main item heading and put all related parts as
sub items to that heading. An example of this would be to create an item and
call it contacts, then add the actual part number for the contact as a sub
item.

Are you gonna sell systems by each piece too? I tried that once and it
was a nightmare keeping inventory and invoicing that way..way too
complicated for a small company if you ask me.

Whats wrong with selling by each piece you put in? That is how we do it and
we have no problems.

Nothing is wrong with it, just if you're a busy small company, the time
envolved in keeping an exact inventory down to the switch may not be
worth it.
