Does anyone here know what is the smallest cable-ready television
available? I want it for its tuner and audio/video inputs/outputs, not
for its display screen.
This is to be used in hotels when I travel, to record cable TV shows.
I'd use a VCR but they're too big.

What about a tuner card, either hdtv or not, that you could stuff into
a small form factor pc. You might be able to get this package to be
smaller than a VCR or a cable-ready television.

Another oddball idea, the large majority of the space inside a vcr is
just air. I wonder whether it would be possible to open the case,
cut off the motors, remove all the tape transport mechanical parts,
and end up with something that would be half an inch high, and work.

Just as Don suggests, purchase one of the many TV tuner/Video capture
cards sold for PC use. Mine fits into a PCI slot on my computer, works
just fine for TV viewing, but its limitation is that it does not
compress stored video, hence about 15-minites of captured video
consumes about 5-Gbytes of disk space. These cost about $75. For a bit
more money, you can likely find one that does compression.
