Jan 17, 2012 to the forum and I know very little about electronics (I know what resistor looks like, and a capacitor and I can solder). Good start eh?

I want to build a small active loudspeaker for my music studio. It will be used alone as a mono reference. I can make the cabinet and get the speaker but need to build a small amplifier to drive the speaker. It will need a line in, a volume control and connections to an 8ohm driver. I guess anything from 1W to 5W will be fine and between 6V and 12V DC input.

Does anybody know where I might be able to find a schematic (designed for an idiot) that will satisfy the above?

    Many Thanks

Or even a small built up board and then simply leave yourself the wiring of the inputs/outputs/volume control.

This one is stereo, but you get the idea.

    edit: Here's a mono amplifier.

You can find similar stuff on ebay.
