small microphones with high-quality, 20-20khz sound

I am developing a small prototype for a hearing assistive device.
Maxim and Digikey have small electret microphones that claim 20-20khz
frequency response.
However, in the past I was never that satisfied with sound quality from
these.
Are there other types of small microphones that have better sound
quality then your typical $1 electret ones?
Thanks

It is most probably the amp. Once you get up to $5 electret
mics, you have the guts for mics that sell for hundreds.

You only need 100hZ to 15kHz or so, most older
humans can't hear above 15kHz or so.

And many can't hear above 5kHz!
