Hello,

I need to know the simplified difference between transformer output voltages in terms of AC and DC.
Can a 12 volt transformer with 12V AC output work in a device whose original transformer had an output of 12V DC?
Conversely, can a transformer's 12V DC output work in a device whose original transformer output was 12V AC?

Thank you,

Roger

Transformers are ONLY AC Devices.
A Transformer that Outputs DC is because it has Rectifiers on it Output to Convert it to DC.

If the device is made for a DC power supply a power supply with AC out will damage the device. But using a DC power supply on a device designed for an AC supply may partially work without damage. The device designed for an AC supply changes the power to DC, so you can put DC in with no problems. There may be other circuits that rely on the AC input for timing, or some such purpose.
