SHARP CD-DD4500 - Mini Component system HELP SOUND TURNS OFF/ON

I got a Sharp CD-DD4500 last year.. i use it for my dvd player optical out for Dolby 5.1 surround.. it worked great for about 6months then sometimes while watchin tv (regular tv) or a dvd.. it will click to 'bypass' and so the sound drops.. it sometimes stays like that.. sometimes it will restart back into playing sound.. sometimes it will click on/off/on/off every few minutes.. any idea on what could be happening.. could it be heat related? any and all information is appreciated..
