semi-OT: How to disassemble a blender

I checked, there didn't seem to be an alt.appliance repair
type group, figured the wizards here would know the answer.
I've got an old Oster blender, all metal, lots of chrome,
that sort of thing, and I'm trying to disassemble it for
a thorough cleaning. The motor mounts to the housing with
four screws, the motor shaft goes through the housing and
has a square end to fit the cutter in the bottom of the
mixer cup. The problem is that there's a dome-shaped shield
that the square shaft pokes up through and I can't figure out
how to get it off so that the motor can be removed from the
housing. There are no visible snap rings or other retention
devices, can this shield be pressed onto the shaft?

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated, and I can post
pictures on my webhost if anyone wants a closer look.

Thanks!
