Schem cap w/ auto position?

Is there a schematic drawing/capture program that will do the
following?

User places components randomly on drawing space. Pins are linked
point-to-point in one run with shortest possible netlines
(unsegmented). IOW user does not lay out position of net _around_
components, but through anything in the way in one motion.

Then ... program optimizes component placement and re-draws netlines
around them accordingly to make a conventional appearing schematic.

Is it available, are we waiting for it, will it ever happen?

Yucck. Drawing schematics is art, and no machine can make art.

I second that -- you draw the lines in a way that helps the viewer
understand what the h*** you were thinking when you designed that
bizarre circuit.

While there are rules that will help, I agree.
You are looking for things like too much crowding, and the schematic
conveys a lot more information than just a netlist.

When I draw a resistor and capacitor together, I'm telling you that
they need to be together. Even if they are sitting across VCC and
ground, if I put them near each other in the schematic, then I want
them near each other on the PCB.

How's a program going to get that right?
