Scan VISA card by a magnetic stripe reader

I think may be it is a stupid question:

Could anyone tell me what information I could get if I scan a bank
VISA card with a magnetic Stripe Reader bought from electronic shop.

I'd guess it's just the same information you could read off the card,
with some checksums and stuff, but I'm sure someone here knows for
sure. Presumably, it would include the relatively new 3-digit security
code that doesn't show up on imprints (?).

Have a read through the ABA standards. Magtek's web site has very good
docs.

I thought the prupose of this code was that it didn't get scanned -
therefore a card can't be cloned by scanning and then used over the
internet/phone without the extra step of recording the security code.
