I'm looking to make a SAD type fixture for my wife and wondered what type of
lamps(fluorescents) I needed to do this.

I also wondered if I needed to use an opaque white acrylic to diffuse the
light or if it would be best to just have a clear acrylic as the opaque
might block out some important light?????

    Many thanks,

I've got a 300W halogen floodlight (with safety grill) mounted above my
workshop bench. This makes me feel like I'm working in full sunshine
while it's the middle of winter. It's inherently full spectrum and
gives off warmth too. What more could you ask for. :)

An ordinary table lamp on a time clock set to light about ten minutes
before your alarm goes off, makes winter morning wake-ups much easier.

    Quoting:
Any fluorescent lamps will do, whether it's cool white, warm white, any color
temp tri-phosphors. As long as it's nice and bright.

  4. ....a high-CCT CFL washing the ceiling to turn it "blue" (I use an
Osram-Sylvania Gro-Lux PAR CFL). That plus a halogen lamp similar to yours
gives me blue sky and sunshine all winter long in my office.
